Doreen and Nicolas, mother and son, accompanied by two other members of their family, decided to change their lifestyles and head for adventure aboard Vitamin Sea, their Lagoon 42. For over 18 months, they have been sailing together to discover the hidden treasures of the Atlantic.
Their story began well before their departure. Four years earlier, the foundation was laid for their family plans: to cross the Atlantic.
It was at the Dusseldorf Boat Show that their dream began to take shape. Drawn by the warm, inviting atmosphere that reigned over the Lagoon stand, they were quickly interested in the Lagoon 42 and Lagoon 46. They finally decided on the Lagoon 42, a model which inspired confidence and promised safety for realizing their long crossing.
Doreen confided in us, “I asked the person who showed me the boat, ‘if there was an emergency, and I fell in the water, could I climb back on board?’ He then told me that, with the wide aft transom, you would always be safe. So that was my catastrophic scenario, and it was discarded.”
Since then, their adventure has taken place between unforgettable stopovers and shared moments for four. Their catamaran has become much more than a boat: a true floating retreat. Each person has adapted to life on board.
For Nicolas, there is nothing better than watching sunsets from the wide aft transom and the spectacle of the water as it passes under the hull. For Doreen, each memory on board is precious, but certain memories stand out.
“When we began our crossing of the Atlantic, it was Nicolas who caught the first fish, a big Mahi Mahi… It was an awesome moment.”
“One thing that I remember really well, we were in the British Virgin Islands, and I caught my first lobster!” added Nicolas.
They also treasure a memory of their passage into the Caribbean, where their Lagoon seemed to sail into a paradise, and sailing in the Exumas, in crystalline waters and infinite shades of blue.
But beyond the landscapes, what touched them deeply is the Lagoon community.
“If we have questions, we can always get help. That is the big Lagoon family. We are surrounded and supported, whatever our questions may be.”
Indeed, over time they have established a bond with the Lagoon community. From their first exchanges with the crew, an atmosphere of trust was established. The relationship with their dealer has strengthened with time, and they appreciate the kindness and proximity of Lagoon dealers. With social media, they have also been able to build strong bonds with others who share their passion for sailing.
“You know, we make friends, we have this common passion for sailing. And when you meet these people, the connection is immediate.”
Today, their Lagoon 42 is much more than a sailboat: it is the setting for their adventures, their memories, and their most precious encounters.
