5 reasons to vote for the Lagoon 38 at the Multihull of the Year 2026

The Lagoon 38 has been nominated in the Sail – Under 45' category of Multihull of the Year 2026, organised by Multicoques Mag. Here's what makes it a natural contender for the title.

March 12, 2026

In just a few months, the Lagoon 38 has won over the juries of the international nautical press and confirmed what its first owners feel on board: something has changed, for the better.

Now it's the public's turn to vote — and here's why the Lagoon 38 deserves yours.

1. An already unanimous international track record

From its very first boat show appearances, the Lagoon 38 was recognised by the most respected juries in the world's nautical press:

  • Best New Sailboat Overall – Newport for New Products 2025 (Newport International Boat Show)
  • Best Boats SAIL Winner – 2026 (SAIL Magazine)
  • British Yachting Awards 2025 – Highly Commended
  • Nominated for European Yacht of the Year 2026

From American boat shows to British magazines, the verdict has been consistently in the Lagoon 38's favour. The Multihull of the Year 2026 is the chance to add the public's voice to the chorus.

2. A full-size catamaran, in 38 feet

The Lagoon 38 measures 11.38 m on the hull. On board, the volumes tell a different story.

Its new hull shape, inherited from the Lagoon 43, makes precise use of every inch of space. The saloon, bright and open, flows naturally towards the cockpit through a retractable glazed door — an indoor-outdoor continuity that invites family and friends, up to 10 people, to gather in one warm, welcoming atmosphere.

The hulls offer either three cabins in the owner's version — with a forward berth and private en-suite aft — or four cabins in the charter version. In both cases, the volumes are generous, storage is plentiful, and natural light is ever-present.

This is the Lagoon spirit in its most accessible form: Always Dream Big.

3. Effortless sailing, for everyone

The Lagoon 38 was designed so that everyone can make the most of being at sea.

Its self-tacking genoa simplifies manoeuvres. All lines are centralised at the helm station, accessible from the cockpit. The deck layout is uncluttered, movement on board is fluid. The extended swim platforms make boarding easier, launching the tender straightforward, and swimming at anchor a pleasure.

With 77.7 m² of upwind sail area and two Yanmar 29 hp engines, the boat delivers reliable, well-balanced propulsion. An optional Code 0 rounds out the package for those who want to explore downwind sailing.

Sailing a Lagoon 38 means rediscovering the serenity that makes every outing memorable — whether it's a weekend in the Mediterranean or an offshore passage.

4. An exceptional creative signature

The Lagoon 38 was born from an uncommon collaboration. Three names, three disciplines, one shared project:

  • VPLP Design is responsible for the naval architecture — the studio behind some of the world's most accomplished racing multihulls.
  • Patrick le Quément, former Design Director at Renault, conceived the exterior lines.
  • Nauta Design created the interior spaces with meticulous attention to every detail: materials, light, ergonomics.

A boat born right, built to sail for years to come.

5. The heir to a legacy, looking to the future

Since 1987, more than 7,000 Lagoon catamarans have left the workshops in Bordeaux. Each one carries the same conviction: the sea is accessible to everyone, provided you design boats that truly welcome them.

The Lagoon 380 embodied that promise better than any other model of its era. The Lagoon 38 embodies it today, shaped by the demands and dreams of our time. A bolder design, enhanced comfort, greater ease of sailing — and that same invitation to set off, share, and discover.

Voting for the Lagoon 38 means supporting this vision. The vision of a catamaran that refuses to choose between accessibility and excellence.
